First and foremost,
please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am 34, and married, with 3 sometimes
adorable children. I have a Yorkie named Dozer who thinks he's an attack dog.
When I'm not writing I love to read, watch movies, give my husband projects to
do around the house and knit.
You tend to write
various types of genres. What's your favorite to write and why? As
long as there's a love story somewhere in there I'm open to writing any genre.
What are you most comfortable to write and why? I'm still fairly new at writing actual novels. I've never written anything paranormal or written a mega wealthy, owns an island type character. I'm inspired by teachers and accountants, I feel most comfortable writing about people I could see myself interacting with.
Are you a plotter or a pantser? I'm a fly by the seat of my pantser ;)
What is your writing routine? I have a day job and my youngest is 3. I tend to write in the evenings and try to write something every day.
Where do you find your inspiration? All over the place. I wrote down an idea for a YA novel the other day after being inspired by something I didn't say to someone.
Where did the concept for HIM come from? I was on an early morning flight to Tampa and had a conversation with the stranger seated next to me. She was on her way to see an old flame. The idea of a second chance romance for Him came from there.
What is it about weddings that provide the perfect backdrop to budding romance? The whole point of a wedding is to pledge your undying love to someone. It's easy to get caught up in the beauty of that. An open bar also helps!
In STAGES OF GRACE, what is the ultimate catalyst that forces Grace to let go of a relationship that has run its course? All Grace wanted from Jon was for him to show her he still cared. After months of living in a loveless, sometimes emotionally abusive relationship the stark contrast of the love that surrounded her when she went to Florida was what finally made her let go.
How do you know when to fight for your relationship and when it's best to simply let go and move on? When you realize you're the only one fighting.
In UNINVOLVED, you have characters who are already friends. How do you show sizzling chemistry between them when they have a history of knowing each other (so no meet-cute, etc.)? Becka and Nate really became friends over email. He tried to stay away from her but just couldn't. She had her own ways of dealing with his brush offs. She was so wrapped up in her own insecurities she had little compassion for the damage she was causing.
What, if anything, can you tell us about HER? You do not need to have read Him to read Her. Her is from Will's point of view. It starts out time wise before Him started and goes out past where Him ended. It also does not alternate between past and present.
What type of relationship is your favorite to explore and develop? I love relationships in their early stages, where everything is so exciting and new.
What type of person is your ideal heroine when you're both reading and writing? I love an independent woman with a sense of humor both, for books I read and write.
What type of person is your ideal hero when you're both reading and writing? I write nice guys, they are also my favorite to read but I do enjoy some bad boys!
Are they the same? Why or why not? Not always the same, pretty much depends on the book.
What has the publishing process been like? I am self published. Him is my fourth novel and I've learned some pretty embarrassing lessons along the way. In the beginning I didn't know what a beta reader was, and had zero strategy to market my books. Though, to be honest most days I still don't know what I'm doing advertising wise. I do blog tours but haven't purchased any ads at this point. I might try something like that in the future. Still learning.
Would you recommend
advertisements or did you market your books through a different venue? I
have had my greatest commercial success with Him. I offered a copy to any
blogger willing to review. I also, about a month after its release had a blog
tour.
How involved are you
in terms of editing/book cover/release date/marketing process? I
have an editor (Yesenia Vargas) and a cover designer (Sarah Hansen of Okay
Creations). I have worked with Yesenia since my first book and really trust
her. She polishes my manuscripts up big time, while never changing what I was
trying to say. Sarah is a creative genius. I am in awe of her uncanny ability
to take a back blurb and a character description and pluck an image I dream of
from my brain. I'm doing another blog tour with Debra, The Book Enthusiast. She
is amazingly organized, me, not so much.
Are you working on
anything now? I have completed an unrelated to Him or Her novel called
Better, that will in released in Feb 2014. I'm working on Sawyer's story
(Sarah's best friend) right now.
